**Speaker:** Today we’re learning about **honey bees**, small but incredibly important creatures.

Bees play a key role in **pollination**, which helps plants grow. They collect both **nectar** and **pollen** from flowers.

A bee colony can include over **50,000** bees, and there’s always one **queen** bee who lays the eggs.

Worker bees usually live around **6 weeks**, during which they gather food and maintain the hive.

Bees use their **sense of smell** to locate flowers. They also communicate through a movement called the **waggle dance**, which shows direction and distance.

However, bees face many threats. Certain **pesticides** used on crops are toxic to them.

Beekeeping, or **apiculture**, is the practice of raising and caring for bees.

Sadly, one major threat is **loss of habitat**, especially in urban and farming areas. Protecting bees means protecting the food chain.
