Secondly, enhanced **public transportation systems** can have substantial **environmental benefits**. Private vehicles are a major source of air **pollution** and greenhouse gas **emissions**. By providing a viable alternative to car travel, **public transportation** can help reduce the **carbon footprint** of urban areas. For example, a single bus can replace multiple cars on the road, leading to lower **emissions** per passenger.
