Speaker: Penguins are fascinating animals. They live mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with the largest populations in Antarctica.

Their bodies are adapted for swimming – they have strong flippers and a streamlined shape. Penguins eat small fish and krill.

They are excellent swimmers and can stay underwater for up to 20 minutes. To communicate, they use calls and body movements.

Baby penguins are called chicks. In winter, penguins gather in large groups, called colonies, to keep warm.

The Emperor penguin is the tallest and heaviest species. In zoos, penguins are often seen in cold indoor enclosures to mimic their natural habitat.

Sadly, climate change and overfishing are major threats to penguins today.
