Speaker: Today we’re learning about honey bees, small but incredibly important creatures.

Bees play a key role in pollination, which helps plants grow. They collect both nectar and pollen from flowers.

A bee colony can include over 50,000 bees, and there’s always one queen bee who lays the eggs.

Worker bees usually live around 6 weeks, during which they gather food and maintain the hive.

Bees use their sense of smell to locate flowers. They also communicate through a movement called the waggle dance, which shows direction and distance.

However, bees face many threats. Certain pesticides used on crops are toxic to them.

Beekeeping, or apiculture, is the practice of raising and caring for bees.

Sadly, one major threat is loss of habitat, especially in urban and farming areas. Protecting bees means protecting the food chain.
