Three children injured in Finland school shooting as 12-year-old suspect arrested

Three 12-year-old children have been wounded in a school shooting near Finland’s capital Helsinki, Finnish police reported Tuesday.

The suspect, also aged 12, has been apprehended and is in custody, police said.

The incident took place at Viertola primary school in the city of Vantaa, about 18 kilometers (11 miles) north of Helsinki. The school has about 800 students between 1st and 9th grade, Finnish public broadcaster YLE said.

At least 7 children, aged 12 to 17, were wounded in a shooting in downtown Indianapolis

At least seven children between the ages of 12 and 17 were wounded in a shooting Saturday night in downtown Indianapolis, where a large group was gathered, police said.

Officers were on patrol when they heard “several shots actively being fired” near the Circle Centre Mall around 11:30 p.m. local time, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

They rushed to the scene to find “a large group of juveniles,” including six with gunshot wounds, Indianapolis Police Deputy Chief Tanya Terry told reporters Sunday morning.

All the wounded children were taken to local hospitals, and a seventh arrived later at an area hospital, Terry said. All the victims are in stable condition.

It’s unclear what led to the shooting or how many people opened fire. No suspects were in custody as of Sunday morning, according to Indianapolis police.

Police believe multiple firearms were involved and are investigating the scene, Terry said.

“It is extremely concerning to us that so many of our young people have been victims of gun violence this evening,” Terry said, “Once again, we have a situation where young people are resolving conflict with gun violence, and it has to stop.”

Police didn’t provide information on the nature of the gathering, but Terry said police have noticed in the evenings a large crowd of juveniles moving around the downtown area.

Easter brunch shooting leaves 1 dead and 5 others wounded in Nashville

One person was killed and at least five others were wounded in a shooting at a Nashville restaurant during Easter brunch celebrations Sunday afternoon and police say they are looking for a suspect who fled in an SUV.

“This was not a shootout …This was one person who decided to pull a gun based on an altercation occurring with another man and then he fired multiple shots,” Nashville police spokesperson Don Aaron said.

Police said they are seeking Anton Rucker, 46, in the shooting. Authorities say he is a convicted felon and fled the restaurant, Roasted, in a Mercedes SUV. The Mercedes was located overnight, according to a Monday morning X post from the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The man who was killed was identified as Allen Beachem, 33, the Nashville police said in a post on X.

Police didn’t name the others who were shot. Those five people have non-critical wounds, Aaron said in an afternoon news conference. Medical responders also transported another person who was possibly grazed by a bullet and a pregnant woman who suffered an apparent panic attack.

Detectives believe the man who was killed and the assailant were having an argument that escalated quickly, Aaron said. The restaurant was crowded, though police couldn’t say how many people were inside when the gunfire began.

Anthony McClain, the north precinct commander for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, said surveillance video showed “mass chaos” during the shooting.

“Everyone’s trying to get out and trying to escape the gunfire,” he said. “Some people did try to resist the gun, the gunman.”

Police said there is no indication the suspect and victim knew each other and called the shooting an isolated incident.
