Câu hỏi đuôi (Tag Questions) là một câu hỏi ngắn được thêm vào cuối câu trần thuật để xác nhận thông tin hoặc yêu cầu sự đồng ý từ người nghe. Câu hỏi đuôi thường xuất hiện trong giao tiếp hàng ngày.
Cấu Trúc Tag Questions
Câu hỏi đuôi gồm hai phần:
- Mệnh đề chính: Là câu trần thuật (có thể là câu khẳng định hoặc phủ định).
- Mệnh đề phụ: Là phần đuôi (tag) với cấu trúc ngược lại (nếu mệnh đề chính khẳng định, phần đuôi phủ định và ngược lại).
Công thức tổng quát:
- Nếu mệnh đề chính khẳng định: S + V + …, don’t/doesn’t/didn’t + S?
- Nếu mệnh đề chính phủ định: S + V + not …, do/does/did + S?
Các Quy Tắc
- Động từ trong phần đuôi: Sử dụng trợ động từ của mệnh đề chính.
- Hiện tại đơn: do/does
- Quá khứ đơn: did
- Tương lai: will
- Hiện tại hoàn thành: have/has
- Động từ khiếm khuyết: can, could, should, would, might, must, etc.
- Đại từ trong phần đuôi: Phải phù hợp với chủ ngữ của mệnh đề chính.
- Phần đuôi ngắn gọn: Không lặp lại toàn bộ câu, chỉ sử dụng động từ và chủ ngữ.
- Intonation (Ngữ điệu): Nếu đang xác nhận thông tin (falling intonation), nếu đang hỏi thật sự (rising intonation).
