Subjunctive Mood (thể giả định) là một cấu trúc ngữ pháp trong tiếng Anh dùng để diễn tả những tình huống giả định, không có thực, mong ước, yêu cầu, đề nghị hoặc đề xuất.

Các trường hợp sử dụng Subjunctive Mood

1. Động từ nguyên thể không “to”:
   • Sau các động từ: suggest, recommend, demand, insist, etc.
     • Ví dụ: I suggest that he go to the doctor.
2. Dùng sau các tính từ thể hiện ý kiến, cảm xúc, hoặc sự cần thiết:
   • Tính từ: essential, important, necessary, etc.
     • Ví dụ: It is essential that she be present.
3. Dùng sau các từ hoặc cụm từ chỉ mục đích, điều kiện:
   • Các từ: if, unless, whether, etc.
     • Ví dụ: If I were you, I would apologize.
4. Dùng sau các cụm từ: “It is time”:
   • Ví dụ: It is time he went home.
5. Dùng trong cấu trúc với “wish” hoặc “as if”:
   • Ví dụ: I wish she were here.

Các hình thức của Subjunctive Mood:

1. Present Subjunctive:
   • Động từ ở dạng nguyên thể: I suggest that he study harder.
   • Thường dùng với các động từ, danh từ hoặc tính từ đòi hỏi hành động.
2. Past Subjunctive:
   • Dùng động từ “be” ở dạng “were” cho tất cả các ngôi: If I were a bird, I would fly.
3. Perfect Subjunctive:
   • Dùng để chỉ hành động xảy ra trước thời điểm trong quá khứ hoặc điều kiện không có thực: If she had known, she would have come.
