Question tags là một cấu trúc trong tiếng Anh, dùng để biến đổi một câu khẳng định hoặc phủ định thành câu hỏi. Chúng thường được sử dụng để xác nhận thông tin hoặc yêu cầu sự đồng ý từ người nghe.

Cấu trúc

• Câu khẳng định + Trợ động từ phủ định + Chủ ngữ?
• Câu phủ định + Trợ động từ khẳng định + Chủ ngữ?

Các nguyên tắc chính

• Nếu mệnh đề chính là câu khẳng định, thì câu hỏi đuôi sẽ ở dạng phủ định và ngược lại.
• Chủ ngữ trong câu hỏi đuôi phải là đại từ nhân xưng tương ứng với chủ ngữ trong mệnh đề chính.
• Trợ động từ trong câu hỏi đuôi phải phù hợp với động từ chính trong mệnh đề.

Các trường hợp đặc biệt

• Với các câu có động từ “to be” (am, is, are, was, were), ta dùng chính các dạng đó trong câu hỏi đuôi.
• Với các câu sử dụng động từ khiếm khuyết (can, could, will, would, should, etc.), ta dùng các động từ này trong câu hỏi đuôi.
• Với câu mệnh lệnh, ta thường dùng “will you?”.
• Với “let’s”, ta dùng “shall we?”.
