Lý thuyết về Articles
Mạo từ không xác định “a” và “an”:
- “A” được sử dụng trước các danh từ bắt đầu bằng một phụ âm, ví dụ: a book (một cuốn sách), a dog (một con chó).
- “An” được sử dụng trước các danh từ bắt đầu bằng một nguyên âm, ví dụ: an apple (một quả táo), an umbrella (một cái dù). Trong nhiều trường hợp hoặc phiên bản lý thuyết khác thì các danh từ được ĐỌC bắt đầu bằng một nguyên âm vẫn phải sử dụng An ví dụ như an hour (một giờ).
Mạo từ xác định “the”:
- “The” được sử dụng khi người nói và người nghe đều biết rõ về điều đó hay người nói đã đề cập tới điều đó trước đó, ví dụ: the sky (bầu trời), the president (tổng thống).
Các trường hợp đặc biệt:
- “The” cũng được sử dụng trước các danh từ chỉ duy nhất có một hoặc đang được nói đến cụ thể, ví dụ: the sun (mặt trời), the moon (mặt trăng).
- “The” cũng được sử dụng trước các danh từ bắt đầu bằng một nguyên âm hoặc một phụ âm khi người nói muốn nhấn mạnh, ví dụ: the one and only (duy nhất một), the United States (Hoa Kỳ).
- Có những trường hợp cụ thể khi không sử dụng mạo từ, như trong các danh từ chung chung hoặc khi nói về loài người, ví dụ: I like cats (Tôi thích mèo), Dogs are loyal animals (Chó là động vật trung thành).
Không sử dụng mạo từ:
- Có những trường hợp trong tiếng Anh khi không cần sử dụng mạo từ, như trong danh từ trừu tượng hoặc danh từ không đếm được, ví dụ: love (tình yêu), water (nước).
