Receptionist: I’m sorry to hear that. May I take your name, please?
Guest: Yes, it’s Alan Roberts.
Receptionist: And what room were you staying in, Mr. Roberts?
Guest: Room 215.
Receptionist: Thank you. Can I ask when you stayed with us?
Guest: From April 5th to April 7th.

Receptionist: What was the issue you experienced?
Guest: There was loud construction noise outside my window.
Receptionist: Do you know where the noise was coming from?

SECTION 2 – Campus Tour Information

Tour Guide: Good morning, everyone. Welcome to your first campus tour. My name is Ellie, and I’ll be showing you around.

Our tour begins at 10 a.m. sharp, so please be back here by then. We’ll start with the main hall, which is the oldest building on campus. Then we’ll visit the library, the sports centre, and the student café.

If you have time later, I really recommend checking out the student café. It’s a great place to meet new friends and get affordable food.

Remember to bring your student ID card. You’ll need it to enter the library, gym, and dormitories.

Let’s hear what students are most interested in:
Michael loves playing football, so he’s excited about the sports centre.
Sophie enjoys reading, so she’s looking forward to seeing the library.
Ryan studies engineering and is curious about the lecture theatres.
Emma is creative and wants to visit the art studio.
Olivia is a big coffee fan and wants to hang out at the student café.
Daniel is always buying books and can’t wait to visit the bookshop.

SECTION 3 – Students Planning a Group Trip

Sally: Hey Ben, have you booked the place for our weekend trip yet?
Ben: Yes! We’re going to Greenwood National Park. It’s perfect for hiking and camping.
Sally: Sounds great. How many people are going?
Ben: Seven, including us.

Sally: And how are we getting there?
Ben: We’ll rent a minibus. It’s easier than taking multiple cars.
Sally: Good idea. What’s the cost?
Ben: Around $25 per person, including fuel.

Sally: Not bad! What should we bring this time? Last trip we forgot the tent.
Ben: Don’t worry, it’s first on the list this time.

Sally: Let’s go over the plan:
We’ll arrive Friday afternoon and set up camp. That evening, we’ll have a BBQ.
On Saturday, we’ll go hiking and have a picnic. Don’t forget your walking shoes.
Sunday is for swimming and relaxing before we leave at 4 p.m.

Ben: Equipment includes tents and cooking gear. I’ll double-check everything.
Sally: What about food?
Ben: Just bring sandwiches or something light for lunch. Everyone can bring something different.

SECTION 4 – A Lecture on Volcanoes

Lecturer: Today, we’ll talk about volcanoes. Volcanoes form when magma reaches the Earth’s surface.

Most volcanoes are found near tectonic plates, especially where plates meet or collide. When a volcano erupts, it releases gas, ash, and lava.

Volcanic ash can be dangerous, especially for airplane engines, which can stop working if ash gets inside.

Some volcanoes are located underwater. When they erupt, they can create new islands.

One famous volcano is Mount Fuji, which is in Japan.
Another is Mount Vesuvius, which destroyed Pompeii in 79 AD.

To measure volcanic activity, scientists use seismometers, which detect movements in the Earth’s crust.

Volcanic soil is often very rich, so it’s good for farming.

But volcanoes are also dangerous. One major danger is fast-moving flows of hot gas and rock called pyroclastic flows.

That’s it for today – please review the key terms before the quiz next week.
