Deaf children are usually expected to adapt to a hearing world, while their classmates are rarely asked to meet them halfway, which is why some argue that basic sign language should be taught to every child. I largely agree with this view, although I believe it should be introduced as a short foundation course rather than a full subject.
The strongest argument in favour is inclusion. Deaf and hard-of-hearing pupils often feel isolated at break times and in group work, simply because few of their peers can communicate with them. If every child knew how to greet someone, ask simple questions and spell out names, these everyday barriers would shrink considerably. Moreover, the benefits would continue into adult life: a shop assistant, nurse or police officer with even basic signing skills could make a real difference to a deaf person in a stressful situation.
Learning to sign may also have educational value in its own right. Because sign languages depend on facial expression, space and movement, they encourage pupils to pay close attention to how meaning is communicated, which can improve their general awareness of language. Young children, in particular, pick up signs quickly.
Nevertheless, there are practical limits. School timetables are already crowded, and qualified teachers of sign language are in short supply in many countries. Making it a full examined subject, alongside a foreign language, would therefore be unrealistic. A more achievable approach would be a course of perhaps one lesson a week for a single year in primary school, supported by online materials.
In conclusion, I agree that all children should learn the basics of sign language, mainly because it promotes inclusion and practical understanding. However, this should take the form of a compact introductory course rather than a subject studied for many years.
Dạng To what extent: nêu rõ quan điểm ngay mở bài (ở đây: đồng ý phần lớn nhưng chỉ nên là khoá nền ngắn). Thân 1: lý do chính — hoà nhập (inclusion), lợi ích khi trưởng thành; Thân 2: giá trị giáo dục (nhận thức ngôn ngữ, trẻ học nhanh); Thân 3: nhượng bộ — thời khoá biểu kín, thiếu giáo viên → đề xuất giải pháp khả thi; Kết: nhắc lại quan điểm. Từ vựng band 7: meet them halfway, inclusion, hard-of-hearing, these barriers would shrink, in its own right, in short supply, core skills. Lỗi hay gặp: viết lan man về người khiếm thính mà không trả lời câu hỏi 'mọi trẻ em có nên học không'; quan điểm ở mở bài và kết bài không khớp.
