In many developed countries, ageing populations and a shortage of care workers have encouraged the use of technology in looking after older people, from sensors that detect falls to robots that remind them to take their medicine. In my view, this trend is largely positive, provided that technology supports human carers rather than replacing them.
The most obvious advantage is safety. Many elderly people live alone, and a fall or sudden illness may go unnoticed for hours. Wearable alarms and motion sensors can alert relatives or emergency services immediately, which can make the difference between a quick recovery and a serious decline. Technology can also help older people remain independent for longer. Voice-controlled devices, automatic pill dispensers and video calls allow them to manage daily tasks and stay in touch with family while continuing to live in their own homes, which is what most of them want.
Nevertheless, there are legitimate concerns. The greatest risk is that governments or care companies under financial pressure might see machines as a cheap substitute for people. A robot can deliver a reminder, but it cannot offer genuine companionship, and loneliness is itself a serious threat to the health of older adults. In addition, many elderly people find new devices confusing, and constant monitoring may feel like an intrusion into their privacy if it is introduced without their consent.
On balance, I believe these problems can be managed. If devices are designed with older users in mind, introduced with their agreement and used to free care workers from routine tasks so that they can spend more time with the people they look after, technology can improve both the safety and the quality of life of the elderly. The development is therefore a positive one, as long as the human side of care is protected.
Dạng Positive / Negative development: phải chọn rõ một phía (có thể kèm điều kiện) ngay mở bài và giữ nhất quán. Dàn ý 4 đoạn: mở bài + quan điểm "largely positive, provided that…", thân 1 lợi ích (an toàn, sống độc lập), thân 2 lo ngại (thay thế con người, cô đơn, quyền riêng tư), thân 3 / kết luận: cách giảm rủi ro → khẳng định lại quan điểm. Từ nên dùng: ageing population, go unnoticed, remain independent, a cheap substitute for, genuine companionship, an intrusion into privacy. Tiêu chí band 7–7.5: Task Response – trả lời đúng mọi phần đề, quan điểm rõ từ mở bài đến kết bài; Coherence – mỗi đoạn một ý chính, có câu chủ đề và ví dụ cụ thể; Lexical – collocation tự nhiên theo chủ đề, tránh lặp từ; Grammar – đa dạng câu phức, ít lỗi. Lỗi hay gặp: lạc đề sang chủ đề rộng hơn, ví dụ chung chung, kết bài thêm ý mới.
