You will hear two students, Sophie and Jack, planning a project for their college course.

Sophie: OK, Jack, we really need to plan our language project today. The tutor wants it by the 18th of November.
Jack: The 18th? That's only five weeks away. So, what are we going to study?
Sophie: I think we should find out how people in our town learn a second language. Lots of people learn English, of course, but some people learn Korean or Spanish too.
Jack: Good idea. How are we going to collect the information? With a questionnaire?
Sophie: Yes, an online questionnaire for everybody. And I'd like to do some interviews too. Maybe about twenty?
Jack: Twenty is a lot. Each interview takes a long time, and we have to write everything up afterwards. Let's do 12.
Sophie: OK, 12 interviews, then. But where can we find people to interview?
Jack: What about the language centre in town? It's on Corbett Street. That's C-O-R-B-E-T-T. They have evening classes, so there are lots of adult learners.
Sophie: Perfect. And I can ask some students in the college library. What questions are we going to ask?
Jack: Three main things: why they are learning, how many hours a week they study, and which apps they use.
Sophie: Apps, yes. I'm sure most people use apps now, not books.
Jack: Maybe, but my grandfather is learning French, and he still uses a big paper dictionary. Older learners might be different, so we should compare different age groups.
Sophie: That's a good point. Then we can make a chart to show the results.
Jack: So who's going to do what?
Sophie: I'll write the questionnaire, because I've written one before, for my history class. You're better at numbers than me, so could you make the chart?
Jack: Sure, no problem. And what about the presentation?
Sophie: We'll both speak. It has to be 10 minutes long, so five minutes each.
Jack: Ten minutes. OK. When shall we meet again?
Sophie: How about Thursday after lunch, in room 214?
Jack: Thursday is fine, but room 214 is closed this week. They're painting it. Let's meet in the café instead.
Sophie: The café, then. See you on Thursday!
